Losing weight is a challenge that many people face, and there are all sorts of wacky methods out there! From slimming diet shakes to cutting out whole food groups, there is a diet for everyone. We think the best way to lose weight is to focus on stopping the negative habits which lead to weight gain, and develop more healthy habits which can last a lifetime.
The first thing to do is keep a written diary of what you eat for a week. See at the end of the week if you can identify specific times in the day when you tend to turn to ‘unhealthy’ choices like chocolate bars or cakes. Is there a pattern to your eating? Perhaps you routinely skip breakfast and end up snacking mid morning to stop feeling hungry?
Next, create a set of ideas which you will try to follow. This isn’t the same as rules, but more guidelines to follow. These could be related to the type of food you are eating, eg. I will eat chocolate on Saturdays or Sundays only. They could be to do with quantities, eg. I will eat 50g veg at every meal. These will help you to stick to more healthy eating patterns.
